Welcome to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center -- one of the nation’s finest academic health care centers. Established in 1957 on the Lexington campus of Kentucky’s flagship university, the faculty, students and staff of our Medical Center take pride in achieving excellence in education, patient care, research and community service.

The UK Chandler Medical Center encompasses the Colleges of Dentistry, Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy, and Public Health, as well as University of Kentucky Hospital, UK Children's Hospital and the Centers of Excellence.

The mission of the UK Chandler Medical Center is to help people of the commonwealth and beyond to gain and retain good health through creative leadership and quality initiatives in education, research, and service. Our vision is to become a top-20 academic health center recognized nationally and internationally for excellence in teaching, research and patient care.

Several recent accomplishments are among the hallmarks of our pride in this institution.

  • UK Hospital is ranked in the Top 20 in the country in cancer care in U.S. News & World Reportís 2001 edition of Americaís Best Hospitals. This is the third consecutive year that UK Hospitalís Markey Cancer Center has been ranked in the Top 20 for cancer care.  The center is ranked No. 19 this year.  
  • The UK College of Medicine is 9th in U.S. News & World Reportís 2003 annual ranking of medical schoolsí rural medicine programs.
  • UK Children's Hospital, the only full-service, tertiary care facility dedicated exclusively to children’s health in the eastern region of the commonwealth, was ranked 28th in the nation in the February 2001 issue of Child magazine.
  • The UK Center for Rural Health was selected as the No. 1 Rural Health Program in the United States by the National Rural Health Association in May 2000.
  • The UK College of Pharmacy was ranked third among all U.S. pharmacy schools offering graduate degrees in the 2000 "America’s Best Graduate Schools" issue of U.S. News & World Report.
  • U.S. News & World Report ranked the University of Kentucky College of Nursing master’s program 29th among 69 graduate nursing programs listed in its "America’s Best Graduate Schools" issue published in 2003. UK’s nursing program was ranked 36th last year.
